Excursion to Kompong Kleang stilts village

Half-Day Tour

(45km east of Siem Reap town) 

  

  • Departing early in the morning, you will discover Kompong Kleang village, first by motor boat, then paddle boat, visiting the flooded forest (or the Vietnamese village, according to the season).
  • Like all communities around the lake, the fishing community of Kompong Khleang undergoes dramatic and continual changes due to the seasonal flood levels caused by the reverse flow of the Tonle Sap River. Houses are built on stilts up to 10 m high and the village is surrounded by flooded forest. Here your guide will give you information about hydrology, the useful plants for medicine and cooking, and local beliefs.*
  • Learn about the local activities of fishermen, unique human adaptations, and the amazing ecosystem of the Tonle Sap Lake.
  • Observe the daily village life with visits to the local market, the pagoda, and the school.

Departure at 7.00 am and return at 12.30 pm, or from 13.30 pm to18.00 pm

One-Day Tour

  • The full-day program starts the same way as the half-day program, detailed above.*
  • After your trip in the flooded forest and the visit of the Vietnamese village, meet your Cambodian host family to share a typical and copious meal.
  • Take advantage of the serenity of the village and relax in one of the hammocks.
  • In the early afternoon, go for a walk in the village center to visit the local market, pagoda, and primary school and observe street activities (boat repairs, making fishing traps, fish processing…)
  • Later visited another part of the village where villagers grew catfish ‘’trey pra’’ and black fish ‘’treyras’’’and ‘’trey ondeng’’.
  • On the way back appreciate the unique colors of the sunset on the lake.

Departure at 07.30 am and return at 16.30 pm


Homestay to Kompong Kleang on Tonle Sap Lake

(45 km south-east of Siem Reap town)

  

  • In the early afternoon discover Kompong Kleang village by motor boat, then access the outskirts of the lake where villagers will paddle you to the flooded forest and to the Vietnamese village. Here your guide will give you information about the hydrology of the area and useful plants for medicine and cooking. Learn about the local activities of fishermen, unique human adaptations, and the amazing ecosystem of the Tonle Sap Lake.
  • Immerse yourself in the experience of sleeping in a local house in this fishing community. Share the daily life of the host family and enjoy the delicious Cambodian fish.

  • The following morning you will go for a walk around the village, allowing you to meet local people, visit the village market, primary school, and pagoda, and see the street activities (boat repairing, making fishing traps, fish processing…)
  • Then, visit another part of the village where villagers grow cat fish ‘’trey pra’’ and black fish ‘’treyras’’’and ‘’trey ondeng’’.
  • Back at the house, take time to prepare traditional Cambodian dishes with your host family. Take advantage of the serenity of the village and relax in one of the hammocks.
